PGMIII Worst Case Scenario... we've got a new winner!

Due to lack of components and a couple PgmIII units with major problems, things were slow in the past few days. Had to open the aluminum side on two units. This is rarely needed if people don't insist riding their Nsr250 bike while the Pgm unit is on fire...! One of them is in the below photo, doesn't really look very bad at a first glance but the pcb was totally destroyed. It was seared enough to let components fall on the ground at the slightest move. So, I had to replace most of the parts with new ones and solder them point-to-point on both sides. I'm glad my skills on handmade guitar tube amps had fallen into place with digital electronics! The result looks quite amateur but there was no other way. Note the "ghetto" RC Valve tester... LOL This is by far the worst PGM I've repaired until now and to be honest I'm not sure I will go that route again, as it involves quite a few working hours and I think I'm slowly losing ...my stubbornness. Any

Manifolds for 38mm carbs on Nsr250 Mc21/ 28 engines

Some general notes for those interested on converting stock Nsr250 carbs to PJ38mm or other carbs of the same venturi diameter. A popular conversion is using the NF5G (1991) manifolds and carbs but they are getting rarer every day, so here are a few tips that may help. The CR125R manifolds should be a straight fit though I'm not sure about the clearance between the Pj38mm carbs but the manifolds are a little bit offset anyway, so there should be no problems at all. The models you are looking for are Cr125 1987-2000 plus the 2002 model. By the way, the reed blocks are the same, so they are a straight swap, as is the V-Force equivalent (V301A). Thanks to  edetuckracing blog   for the exact model of the V-Force reed block. If you are lucky enough to find the nf5 carb manifolds, the mounting holes should be elongated about 2mm, so they can fit the nsr250 crankcases. Also, there may be a clearance issue while using a ram air (Harc-Pro, JHA or I-Factory) or HRC airbox with the RH

Nsr250 Mc28 PgmIV

After quite a few repairs on PgmIV units, I have at last one for myself as well. It is equipped with a HRC P-010 card, so it's the perfect addition for my mc28 racing/ track bike.

Sweet Reverse Tz250

A nice looking Tz250U 3AK '88 model. Thinking of buying it though the asking price is a little bit on the high side but still is a nice and rare find. Sounds ready for a race as well... The reverse TZ250 models are the ones that really attracted some attention on Yamaha racing bikes. The engine is similar to previous TZ models but with the cylinders now reversed 180 degrees with the carbs in front and the exhausts exiting straight to the rear. Three models were released prior Yamaha started developing V2 engines. The '88 model is the first reverse TZ250U (3AK) '88. Then came the '89 Tz250W (3LC) '89, quite similar but with a few differences, like a newer design on the bodywork, more strengthened engine components, better brakes and powerjets on the carbs. Last reverse is the TZ250A (3TC) '90, with the major differences from the previous model being a smaller crankcase and 5'' rear wheel. This model win the Isle of Mann at an average of 185 Km/H

Just a teaser...

Scratching my head, trying to come up with a paint scheme for my mc28. Any ideas are welcome! I think I'll keep the Tyga tail section, definitely keep the PVM magnesium wheels and maybe keep the stock ferings for road use and buy a TSR bodywork for racing use. As always, no comments about my workshop, please!

Pgm units ...under the knife.

The next few days will be tight... as I'll have to repair quite a few Nsr250 & Crm250 PGM units. A Pgm unit for Kostas (GR), two units for Nick (AU), one for Ryan (US) and a Crm250 MK2 pgm for Jackysiu (HK). Please, no comments about my workspace!

Just a misunderstanding...

...though thanks for the kind words! Well, this Nsr250 Mc28 is not mine but if anyone is interested I can go and have a look. Nsr250 Mc28 at raresportbikesforsale.com

Nsr250 Mc28 parts for sale!

Started stripping & working on my Mc28, so some stuff have to go to fund for the new project.  I will soon upload the parts on ebay and edit this post with links...  Carbs: Stamped TB10A, in good working order, part of the solenoid section looks to be missing even though they were working great. TPS is included.  ebay link Notes & Tips:  These are downdraft carbs that have a venturi diameter of 32mm.  HV tapered profile that bores out to about 35mm. They may suit Mc21 engines as well but they have a shorter body (by about 12mm).  Needles are J8LA (LH) & J8MA(RH). They have a 0.5mm washer positioned below them, that effectively leads to a richer mixture but dunno if this is how the carbs left the factory, so please check your manual... or just give them a try and decide for yourself.  Needle jets are "bleed" type. This is fine for road use but racing applications require "primary" type needle jets, so keep that in mind for futu

Broken Piston

I think Bill started working on his blog... some interesting photos of two stroke builds for now. Check out the  BrokenPiston Blog!

Rs250 NF5 carbs

I have received a set of Keihin PJ38mm carbs from Leigh (UK), along with carb manifolds (stamped NF5G) which have the holes elongated... in order to straight fit on a Nsr250 crankcase. I temporarily bolted them on the mc28 crankcases to check for any clearance problems.  They look sweet though they have quite a few drawbacks compared to OEM downdraft carbs that I will have to solve prior getting any serious power up from them.  Possible mods: shortening the intake side, construction of a elliptical profile bellmouth, construction and fitting of an externally adjustable powerjet and whatever shows up during the whole process.

Derestricted PGMIII for Nsr250 Mc21

Just finished the derestriction of a PGM unit for David(NZ). The derestriction took place inside the ECU and will allow any Nsr250 mc21 to run in it's full potential. No need of any fancy boxes or cutting of the wiring loom while using this PGM unit. This modification is not part of my work/ research, it is an old and well known modification that I'm offering under a new approach.  Please, do not confuse a "derestricted" PGM with a racing ECU unit like the ones that HRC offers.  If you are planning to race or extract every last bit of your bike while still keeping some drivability, then HRC is the way to go. Though, if you have no other alternatives, then the derestriction of a stock PGM along with an altered base ignition advance will help a lot.  More modifications on stock PGM units are under development.

This blog is now 1 year old.

Nsr250 Mc18

Spend a nice weekend with good company, servicing John's(GR) mc18 bike. New cylinders, serviced front forks, freshly colored wheels and a few carb issues corrected. I can't wait to see the bike in it's new clothes ... it is a joy to ride. From Dawn ...till Dusk.

Nsr250 mc21 PGMIII

This is a PgmIII unit that belongs to David(NZ). I have just received it for a repair to the exhaust valve control circuit and after opening up the cover... I found a very disappointing surprise. What you see here, is the result from someone that unsuccessfully tried to repair the Pgm unit in the past. The PgmIII, ended up with a messed up pcb and missing parts. I believe I'm asking a fair price for a very time consuming and detailed job. This repair does not include fixing other people's mistakes and/ or failed attempts. This unit will be posted back...
